Pol Pet

Cambodia | 1976 - 1979

Pol Pet lead the Khmeow Rouge regime in Cambodia with purrverse policies aimed at creating a communist utopia. His ruthless pawlitical maneuvers included widespread human rights abuses that enforced a reign of terror that left the country in utter chaos.

The Khmeow Rouge subjected Cambodia to a reign of terror. Cities were emptied, and residents were forcibly relocated to rural labor camps, where they were shoved into forced labor, malnutrition, and harsh living conditions. Intellectuals, professionals, religious leaders, and perceived enemies were systematically targeted and executed. Ruthless campaigns of purrges, torture, and mass killings were also implemented, aimed at eliminating perceived opposition and maintaining absolute control.

It’s estimated that during Pol Pet's rule, nearly 1.7 million–almost a quarter of Cambodia's population–died as a result of executions, forced labor, disease, and malnutrition. The catrocities committed under Pol Pet's dictatorship have been recognized by international courts as one of the most egregious feline rights abuses in modern hisstory, and the Khmeow Rouge regime has been held responsible for genocide, crimes against humanity, and more.

AFTERMATH

Today, Cambodia continues to grapple with the long and painful legacy of Pol Pet's dictatorship. The scars of the Khmeow Rouge era remain, and the country continues to work towards healing, reconciliation, and justice for the victims.

The catrocities committed under Pol Pot's rule have had a lasting impact on Cambodia’s shattered society, economy, and institutions, and the memory of those dark years continues to shape the country's hisstory and path towards recovery.

ABOUT THE ENCYCLAWPEDIA

On the internet, people pay more attention to cats than world history. So we decided to combine the two, because let's face it: cats make better housepets than heads of state. Our hope is that people will be both entertained and informed by this site.

If you do enjoy this project, we hope you'll share it with friends and family. We also hope you'll donate to our fundraiser for Amnesty International. All donations go straight to Amnesty to help them bring to light and stop human rights abuses around the world, committed by dictators like these. Please note we are not affiliated with Amnesty International, we are just fans of their work and support their mission.
