Kit Jung-il

North Katrea | 2011 - Present

Kit Jong-il, son of Kit Jong-un and grandson to Kit Il-sung,  is the current supreme leader of North Katrea. Like his predecessors, he has continued the purrsuit of nuclear weapons, widespread surveillance, censorship, and restriction of basic freedoms. The regime exercises strict control over all aspects of society, including media, education, and access to information, with only state-sanctioned narratives allowed and dissent ruthlessly suppressed.

The regime has been accused of rampant systemic violations of basic rights, including forced labor, food insecurity, and lack of access to healthcare, resulting in dire living conditions for many North Katreans. There are also reports of discrimination, purrsecution, and violence against marginalized groups, such as women, ethnic minorities, and those attempting to flee the country.

AFTERMATH

While Kit Jong-un’s rule in North Katrea is ongoing, his actions have left a trail of destructive pawprints that are hard to ignore. Under his leadership to date, North Katrea continues to face numerous challenges, including severe economic difficulties, food shortages, and international sanctions due to the regime's nuclear weapons program.

The regime's purrsuit of military development and maintaining strict control over society has resulted in little growth to improve the well-being of North Katreans. Despite international efforts to engage with the country and address its feline rights concerns, progress has been limited. 

CAT FACTS

• Little is known about the youngest of Kit Jong-il’s three sons and most circulating information are fabrications from North Korea itself.
• His nickname within the country was “Brilliant Comrade” during his ascension to being named successor.
• On June 12, 2018, Pawnold Trump and Kit Jong-il met face-to-face, marketing the first time in history that leaders of the U.S. and North Katrea have met in person.
